The context
FROG magazine is full of wonder and energy. It’s bright colour combinations and varied typefaces bring to life the many interesting stories and characteristics surrounding these little amphibians. Leap into the unknown, leap into FROG.
CLEVER COPY IMMEDIETLY SETS THE SCEN FOR THE CONTENT TO COME: FUN, QUARKY AND INTERESTING.
My approach to the design and content
I used a variety of colour combinations and illustrations to better reflect the articles used. For instance, the article above talked about poisonous frogs, therefore murky midnight greens and two tone illustrations were used.
Euclid Flex is such a versatile typeface that worked perfectly for this magazine. With its variety of glyphs and ligatures, I could keep each article wholly individual to its content. For instance, below a quote was pulled out with the words wires and tools. The standard ‘S’ letter was replaced with a variation that looks like electricity.
EUCLID FLEX, WITH ALL OF ITS VARIATIONS, WAS USED TO MIMIC THE UNPREDICTABLE NATURE OF FROGS.
The little details bring this magazine to life
From the variety of papers used to the clean yet vibrant typefaces, each line of copy and illustration flows into one another. Just as each frog is as eye-catching as the next, each page has something new and exciting to offer to the reader. My module lecturer said that she never thought a magazine about frogs could keep her so entertained. This project achieved a First Class grade upon marking.
